What if I Told You?
A short poem about the fear of falling in love.
What if I told you I wouldn’t know how to be,
if I looked for you and you hid from me?
What if I told you I wouldn’t know how to breathe,
if you looked me in the eyes and asked me to leave?
What if I told you I wouldn’t know how to live,
if I reached out my hand and you had nothing left to give?
What if I told you I wouldn’t know what to say,
if I woke up to find that you’d walked away?
What if I told you I wouldn’t know what to do,
if living meant spending a day without you?
What if I told you I wouldn’t know how to sleep,
if I got rejected after falling so deep?
What if I told you I wouldn’t know how to act,
if I said I love you and you didn’t say it back?
And what if I told you that all of this was true,
that I wrote it last night, while thinking of you.
